John was born and raised in southern Alberta. After high school in Fort Macleod, he moved to Edmonton and received a B.A. (Political Science) from University of Alberta. Then to Halifax, N.S. to study at Dalhousie University, obtaining a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA). He worked in management at the Victoria General Hospital, the regional tertiary care hospital and while in Halifax, married Kathy. They moved to Edmonton a few years later and John attended Law School at University of Alberta. Kathy started a very successful career with Edmonton Public Schools. John and Kathy raised two wonderful daughters, now successful independent young adults (both with Covid puppies). John has been in private practice for over 20 years, with a focus today on estate matters and advising organizations in the charity and not-for-profit sector. After an amicable end of the marriage, John transitioned to downtown condo living. John is active with the Making Waves Aquatics Club, having served on the executive and on the IGLA 2016 organizing committee. He also served two years on the pride festival society board while that was in operation. John and his partner Barry keep active with yoga, cycling, running and camping, and in winter, skiing, xcountry and downhill. They are both looking forward to re-emerging to a post-covid social life and John’s continued work with the exciting housing project of the
Edmonton Pride Seniors Group.
